Two years and four months after the delivery of the Logistic Support Ship (LSS) “Jacques Chevallier,” OCCAR has proudly delivered the second of four French LSS ships the “Jacques Stosskopf” to the French Navy, Marine Nationale, with the agreement of DGA.
This event took place on board the ship from the Toulon Naval Base in the presence of the Vice Amiral D´Escadre (VAE) Christophe Cluzel, Commandant la force d´action navale, Ingenieur general de lármement (DGA – Direction générale de l’armement) Francois Watteau, the OCCAR-EA Director, Joachim Sucker, Laurent Castaing, CEO of Chantiers de l’Atlantique, and Stephane Fremont, Directeur des navires de combat de surface of the NAVAL GROUP and members of Jacques Stosskopf’s family.

In his speech, the OCCAR-EA Director, Joachim Sucker paid tribute to Jacques Stosskopf, a marine engineer and prominent member of the Resistance during WWII and war hero who paid with his life to defend its values.
The OCCAR-EA Director also highlighted the strength of the ongoing French-Italian cooperation. He thanked all stakeholders – Chantiers de l’Atlantique, NAVAL GROUP, FINCANTIERI, their subcontractors, the Marine Nationale, the French Navy, DGA – Direction générale de l’armement and the OCCAR LSS teams – for their extraordinary commitment and for their effectiveness. This has led to the final success of delivering on due time the second French ship of the LSS Program with a very high-quality level.

The LSS Program is the result of a fruitful cooperation between France and Italy, led by OCCAR (Organization for Joint Armament Co-operation) on behalf of the DGA – Direction générale de l’armement for the French part, integrating the development, the production of six ships and their In-Service Support (ISS).
These modern, interoperable double-hull support ships are designed to meet current environmental regulations and replace the Navy’s tanker fleet. Fully interoperable with its partners, notably NATO, these ships are particularly versatile and can ensure a large number of missions: providing logistical support to other ships (transport/delivery of naval and aeronautical fuel, fresh water, ammunition, food, spare parts) and also ensuring multiple missions with a high degree of flexibility (command of an international naval force, supporting the projection from all classes of ships conforming to NATO standards or even medical support with a hospital).
It also has a latest generation combat system and self-protection effector with the SIMBAD RC and RapidFire systems allowing the treatment of asymmetric threats.
