The future HNLMS Den Helder was at Den Helder for the first time today. The new Combat Support Ship (CSS) was moored there. Later that day, HNLMS Friesland performed the procedures for supplying at sea as a test.

The CSS was at Den Helder for a logistical stop. Material and goods were loaded on board. These are needed for the finishing of the supply ship. The CSS left again after a few hours for the next stop in Vlissingen.

The supply ship is currently undergoing a sea trial. The CSS is being tested extensively on all fronts. One of these tests is a so-called Replenishment At Sea (RAS). In this test, the CSS carried out the procedures for refueling another ship at sea, such as connecting all installations and going through the procedures.

The sea trials of the CSS have been going well so far. The ship left the Damen Shipyards shipyard in GalaĊ£i, Romania, at the end of November. In recent weeks, various navigation, technical and safety systems have been tested. Think of the propulsion, engines, but also the fire installation. That is why, in addition to crew members, there are also employees of Damen and sub-suppliers on board.

The ship is now heading for Vlissingen. The CSS will arrive at Damen Naval tomorrow morning. The ship will be completed there. In the spring of 2025, the ship will officially call at its home port of Den Helder for the first time. The ship will be christened in early 2025.
