During the launch of Ariane 6 from the Guiana Space Centre (CSG) in Kourou, the armed forces in French Guiana (FAG) deployed a complete joint security system as part of Operation TITAN.

On land, at sea, and in the air, the military ensured the protection of the CSG perimeter. The 3rd Foreign Infantry Regiment (3rd REI) conducted land patrols, while Air Base 367 (BA 367) provided aerial surveillance. At sea, the Antilles-Guyane patrol vessel La Résolue and the rigid-hulled inflatable boat from the coastal maritime surveillance vessel La Charente ensured the security of the surrounding waters.

This mobilization is part of the permanent mission of the French Armed Forces in French Guiana (FAG): to protect national strategic installations and guarantee the safety of space launches, which are essential to European sovereignty.

The French Armed Forces in French Guiana (FAG) guarantee France’s sovereignty over this overseas territory. More than 2,100 military personnel are deployed daily to contribute to the stability of their permanent area of responsibility in the Caribbean. They are engaged in the fight against illegal gold mining (Operation HARPIE), the security of the Guiana Space Centre (Operation TITAN), and the protection of the French Exclusive Economic Zone off the coast of French Guiana (interministerial Operation POLPÊCHE). A key support base in Latin America, the FAG regularly hosts regional partners at its jungle warfare training center. These various activities contribute to the defense of France’s strategic interests in the region.
