Within the framework of permanent actions to maintain the rule of law, the Secretariat of the Navy, through the Mexican Navy acting as the Coast Guard, reports that, during surveillance and maritime security operations, approximately 188 packages representing several tons of alleged cocaine were seized, pending the determination of the ministerial weight by the competent authorities.
This seizure was carried out beyond the Exclusive Economic Zone, west of Clarión Island; through the exchange of information and in the face of a deployment of units of both the Mexican Navy and the Coast Guard (USCG) and the Joint Interagency Force of the Southern Command (JIATF-South) of the United States of America, as part of bilateral and international cooperation efforts to combat illicit activities in the maritime sphere.
The detainees, who were read their rights, as well as the effects seized, were placed at the disposal of the competent authorities to determine their legal situation.
These actions are part of the maritime surveillance operations carried out by the Secretariat of the Navy through the Mexican Navy, to inhibit criminal action and represent a significant impact on the financial structure of criminal groups.
