Japanese Update on Relocation of MCAS Iwakuni

We would like to inform you (February 27, 2020) that the relocation of aircraft training (independent training) to Guam and other locations in connection with the U.S. military realignment will be carried out as follows.

This marks the 85th and 86th time that training has been transferred overseas.

The relocation of training overseas is being undertaken to mitigate the impact of training activities on areas surrounding U.S. military airfields.

(1) Relocation of training from Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni to Guam and other locations

training period Friday, March 6, 2020 – Thursday, March 26, 2020
Participating troops Carrier Air Wing 5 (Iwakuni)
Participation scale Approximately 16 FA-18 aircraft, 6 EA-18 aircraft,
approximately 230 personnel

(2) Relocation of training from Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni to Guam, etc.

training period March 10th (Tuesday) to March 27th (Friday), 2020
Participating troops Carrier Air Wing 5 (Iwakuni)
Participation scale Approximately 8 FA-18s, 4 EA-18s,
10 F-35Cs, 4 E-2Ds,
approximately 830 personnel
  • Before and after the training period, the aircraft participating in the training and the aircraft transporting personnel and supplies will be deployed and withdrawn.
