The Indonesian Navy continues to demonstrate its commitment to strengthening international maritime diplomacy through active participation in the International Fleet Review (IFR) and Kakadu 2026 Multilateral Joint Exercise (Latma) held in Sydney, Australia.
In the series of activities, the Chief of Naval Staff (Kasal) Admiral TNI Dr. Muhammad Ali, represented by Pati Sahli Kasal Level III for Diplomacy, Law, Intelligence, and International Relations Admiral TNI Dr. Antonius Widyoutomo as Head of Delegation (HOD), accompanied by the Commander of the Second Fleet Command Admiral TNI I Gung Putu Alit Jaya and the Indonesian Defense Attaché to Australia Admiral TNI Novera Budi, attended the implementation of IFR in commemoration of the 125th Anniversary of the Royal Australian Navy which was held in Sydney.
Also present at this IFR activity were a number of high-ranking Australian officials, including Hon Richard Marles as Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Ms. Sam Mostyn AC as Governor-General of Australia, Admiral David Johnston AC RAN as Chief of the Defence Force (CDF), Vice Admiral Mark Hammond AO RAN as Chief of Navy, and Lieutenant General Simon Stuart AO. DSC as Chief of Army.
In this activity, the Indonesian Navy deployed the KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata-331 (KRI REM-331) commanded by Marine Colonel (P) Andi Kristanto as the 2026 Kakadu Dansatgas. IFR was attended by more than thirty-four warships from twenty countries, including Indonesia, Australia, the United States, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, and Canada. After the implementation of IFR, all participating countries will continue the Kakadu Multilateral Exercise series, which consists of the Harbor Phase and the Sea Phase. During the Harbor Phase, which runs from 22 to 24 March 2026, all warships will dock in Sydney for an Exercise Brief, joint exercises, and a Deck Reception attended by representatives of the participating countries’ navies.
Furthermore, the Sea Phase will be held in the Eastern Australia Exercise Area from March 25 to 28, 2026. In this phase, KRI REM-331 along with twenty-one ships from twelve countries will conduct various training series, including Anti-Surface Warfare Exercises, 76 mm Cannon Shooting, Anti-Submarine Warfare, and Replenishment at Sea (RAS). At this stage, the professionalism and ability of soldiers are tested in carrying out the entire training series in an integrated manner.
This activity is expected to be a strategic forum that brings together naval leaders from various countries to strengthen cooperative relations, increase mutual understanding, and strengthen synergy in maintaining the stability of regional maritime security. The Indonesian Navy uses this momentum to expand the cooperation network and strengthen Indonesia’s role in the global maritime arena.
