The first multi-purpose corvette of the Pohjanmaa class being built for the Finnish Navy has reached the “hull completed” stage at the end of 2024 and its hull assembly is complete. The protective hood that protected the vessel during the painting phase was removed at the beginning of February. The ship’s outfitting continues at RMC’s (Rauma Marine Constructions) Rauma shipyard and the official launch will take place this spring.

The project is progressing towards the completion of four ships by 2029. Construction of the first corvette began in Rauma in April 2024, and the second began in October 2024. The corvettes will be put into service in stages during 2027 and 2029.

Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) and its subsidiary RMC Defence Oy are building the Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvettes for the Finnish Navy designed for the changing conditions of the Baltic Sea. The corvettes are suitable for long-term maritime operations throughout the year, if necessary, for example, for preventing maritime attacks, maritime mine clearance, underwater warfare and seabed operations.
