Groningen intercepted some 7,000 kilos of drugs in the Caribbean over the past 5 months. Today, the patrol ship returned to Den Helder. There, the crew received a warm welcome from family and friends. Zr.Ms. Holland is now taking over the tasks in the West.
The drug seizures by the Groningen were carried out alternately in cooperation with the American Coast Guard and the Caribbean Coast Guard. For example, the naval vessel was assisted by an American helicopter stationed on board while tracking down suspicious boats.
Holland does not need that assistance. This relieving station ship in the West has its own NH90 maritime combat helicopter.
In addition to drug control, the station ship supports the Caribbean Coast Guard. It is also ready for humanitarian operations, such as emergency aid after hurricane passages.
