With the arrival at the port of Buenos Aires during the early hours of January 22, icebreaker ARA “Almirante Irízar” formally concluded the first stage of the Summer Antarctic Campaign (CAV).
The Orcadas Joint Antarctic Base had been the last operational work point on the white continent. Now, it is expected that after a week of resupply and reloading of materials and supplies, the Argentine Navy ship will resume the second stage of the CAV by the end of this month.
So far, the “Irízar” has sailed more than 6,600 nautical miles, precisely complying with the schedule ordered by the Joint Antarctic Command (COCOANTAR).
In this way, and with the support of a Sea King helicopter of the Second Aeronaval Helicopter Squadron of the Argentine Navy, logistical tasks of resupply of scientific material, fuels, lubricants, refrigerated, refrigerated and dry food, construction materials and general cargo were carried out at the Carlini Antarctic Base and at the Joint Antarctic Bases (BAC) Esperanza, Petrel, Marambio, Brown, Primavera, Cámara and Orcadas.
