On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the overseas patrol vessel Jean Tranape set sail from Boulogne-sur-Mer for her first sea trials. Until the end of the week, it will conduct a series of sea trials. Following this phase, the vessel will be drydocked in Calais to complete the necessary work.

The Jean Tranape is expected in Brest, before being officially delivered by the DGA to the Navy and joining Nouméa, its home port, sometime in 2026. This first outing marks an important step in the commissioning of this new patrol boat since it is the first time that the performance of the vessel is being tested.

Its main missions will be the surveillance of French maritime areas, the fight against illicit trafficking, the protection of fisheries, and support for search and rescue operations at sea and humanitarian interventions. With its increased autonomy and capabilities compared to the P400 patrol boats it replaces, it represents a major reinforcement of the fleet deployed in the area.
