The Danish Armed Forces will continue their increased presence in Greenland and will conduct the Arctic Endurance exercise in the Arctic and the North Atlantic together with NATO allies.
The activities in Greenland are a continuation of the Armed Forces’ strengthened presence in Greenland, which began in 2025. Last year, too, the increased presence in Greenland included contributions from NATO partners.
The increased presence in Greenland is a consequence of the changed security policy situation, which places new demands on Denmark’s and NATO’s defense of the Arctic and the North Atlantic.
The Arctic Endurance exercise is still under development. In the past week, some NATO countries have conducted preliminary planning visits to Greenland. Reconnaissance teams from the countries have examined practical aspects of terrain, accommodation, transport, logistical and planning aspects. Reconnaissance teams have returned home to continue further planning, other countries’ contributions have continued in Greenland, where they continue to plan future activities, while new reconnaissance teams are still on their way into Greenland.
Exercise activities in Arctic Endurance continue this week when the Danish main force for this part of the exercise has arrived in Greenland. The initial part of the exercise includes contributions from individual NATO partners and takes place primarily in and around Nuuk and in the area around Kangerlussuaq.
