The National Government, through the Industrial Services of the Navy (SIMA-PERU), reported on the progress in the construction of four large ships that are part of the modernization process of the Peruvian Navy. These are two logistics auxiliary vessels, an oceanic patrol boat and a multirole frigate, whose execution will strengthen the operational capacity of the institution and contribute to the development of the naval industry in the country.
Lieutenant Commander Diego Huemura Paredes, representative of SIMA, explained that the project has a five-year horizon and will allow the first logistics vessel to be operational by the end of 2026, while the oceanic patrol boat will be delivered in 2028 and the multirole frigate in 2030. He added that the construction of these naval units will generate more than 10 thousand direct and indirect jobs, energizing national companies linked to this strategic sector.
The officer stressed that this effort is being developed with the participation of Peruvian workers and through the technology transfer of the Hyundai Heavy Industries company, which will strengthen the capacities of the SIMA shipyards and consolidate the naval industry as a driving force for other productive sectors.
“This process unites various industries around shipbuilding and will generate benefits not only for the Navy, but also for the national economy,” he said.
Recently, the Minister of Defense, Walter Astudillo Chávez, recalled that this effort is part of a comprehensive plan to strengthen the country’s defense industry. He said that the SIMA began a process of co-manufacturing 23 ships and that this year progress was made with four of them, while the Army Arms and Ammunition Factory (FAME) has assembled more than 13,000 rifles and the Air Force is manufacturing aircraft parts and parts.
In this way, the Defense sector reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the country’s operational capabilities and to the generation of employment and technological innovation, for the benefit of security and national development.
