The Colombian Navy, through units of the Caribbean Naval Force and the Specific Command of San Andrés and Providencia, participated in the third version of the “Event Horizon” operation, a multinational naval training exercise that is taking place in the common regime zone between Jamaica and Colombia, and whose main objective is to strengthen interoperability against transnational crime and disaster relief in the Greater Caribbean region.

On board the ARC “20 de Julio” vessel, and with the accompaniment of a Rapid Reaction Unit – URR of the Coast Guard, the Colombian Navy carried out a combined exercise with the Jamaican Defense Force and its Maritime Patrol Vessel HMJS “George William Gordon”, developing maneuvers and sea control exercises, which tested the crews’ response capacity to crimes such as drug trafficking.

It is worth noting that, once the exercise was completed, the HMJS George William Gordon arrived at the island of San Andrés, this being the first time that a unit of the Jamaican Defence Force docked in the Archipelago department, this in order to get to know this strategic region in the island territory and continue consolidating cooperative relations between both countries.

The Commander of the San Andrés and Providencia Specific Command, Rear Admiral Alfonso Córdoba García, said: “It is an exercise in which, in order to strengthen interoperability ties, we share information, verify how we are doing, exchange knowledge so that if necessary, we can operate jointly successfully.”

“Event Horizon” has established itself as one of the most important operational exercises in the Greater Caribbean, testing the readiness of units and their crews, promoting comprehensive maritime security and improving communication channels at sea.

The Colombian Navy will continue to participate in spaces that allow for the promotion of operational synergy and international cooperation, maintaining relations with allied countries that allow for the strengthening of defense and sovereignty capabilities in the region.
