The LST “Chacabuco” dependent on the Amphibious Command and Naval Transport, is conducting a commission in support of the insular area of the Juan Fernández archipelago, between Wednesday, November 19 and Monday, November 24, transporting personnel and institutional and governmental material.

Before sailing, on November 18 it carried out a beaching maneuver in the Playa San Mateo sector in Valparaíso, to embark the first fire truck assigned to the Municipality of Juan Fernández, to later go inside the shelter molo in Valparaíso and finish with the embarkation of the rest of the cargo and passengers.

After setting sail on the 19th and after 30 hours of navigation, the barge arrived at Juan Fernández, to begin the 21st early with the beaching maneuver on the island and thus deliver the cargo.

Once the material was delivered, the Mayor of Juan Fernández, Pablo Manríquez, indicated that “together with the neighbors we are very happy, because the truck of first attack is already there, the bomb car, the first in the history of our community that arrived through the barge ‘Chacabuco’ of the Chilean Navy.”

The Commander of the barge, Lieutenant Commander Gabriel Boré, indicated that “for us it is really a pride to be able to contribute in this way to something as significant as a car bomb for the community of Juan Fernández.”

Ocean Monitoring

At the same time, the Maritime Zone Patrol Vessel (OPV) “Comandante Toro, together with an embarked Naval Helicopter, is carrying out an Ocean Surveillance Operation in the area of the Juan Fernández Archipelago, between Wednesday, November 19 and Monday, November 24.

As part of this operation, the OPV “Comandante Toro” headed towards the island of Alejandro Selkirk, the furthest from the continent but belonging to the same archipelago. Upon arrival at the site, the cargo was transferred by helicopter to the mainland and in parallel a delegation disembarked to conduct medical operation and maintenance work on a generator.
