Japan Announces CSG25 Visit

  1. The UK will deploy an aircraft carrier strike group, including the aircraft carrier Prince of Wales, to the Indo-Pacific region, including Japan, and the group will call on Japanese ports from August to September this year. This will be the second time the British aircraft carrier strike group has called on Japanese ports, following the call by the British aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth in September 2021.
  2. Amid an increasingly severe and uncertain security environment surrounding Japan, the Government of Japan welcomes this port call as it demonstrates the UK’s commitment to contributing to regional peace and stability, and will contribute to further strengthening Japan’s security and Japan-UK security and defense cooperation.
  3. The three ships of the Carrier Strike Group are expected to call on Japan this time: the British aircraft carrier Prince of Wales, the British destroyer Dauntless, and the Norwegian frigate Roald Amundsen. During their visit to Japan, the British aircraft carrier Prince of Wales will call at the U.S. Naval Facility in Yokosuka and the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal, the British destroyer Dauntless at the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Yokosuka Base, and the Norwegian frigate Roald Amundsen at the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Yokosuka Base and the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal.
