The Brazilian Navy (MB) announced last week the publication of four new updated nautical charts for the Estreitos region, in the Marajó archipelago (PA). Produced by the Northern Hydrography and Navigation Center (CHN-4), the material provides essential data for navigation safety, such as depths, submerged obstacles, lighthouses, buoys and other nautical aids.
The new charts are part of the 3rd Brazilian Nautical Cartographic Plan, which provides for the updating of nautical maps of the region. Among the innovations is the inclusion of the first Electronic Navigation Chart of the archipelago, an important milestone for the modernization of hydrography in the Amazon.

The Marajó archipelago plays a central role in the river transportation of cargo through the Northern Arc and in the movement of passengers in the North of Brazil, especially in the stretch between the Pará and Amazon rivers. With the new charts, sailors now have access to safer and more digital tools for planning routes and preventing risks.
The publication of seven more nautical charts for the region is also planned as part of the 3rd Brazilian Nautical Cartographic Plan, increasing the safety and efficiency of river navigation in the Amazon.
