The new patrol ship

The NPa “Maracanã” is the third belonging to the Class “Macaé”, which already has two others in operation in MB, the “Macaé” and the “Macau”. With mostly Brazilian technology, the “Maracanã” will act subordinateto the Command of the Naval Patrol Group of the South and Southeast in Santos (SP). The ship delivered today is part of the current phase of the Program for obtaining Patrol Ships (PRONAPA) which also provides for the continuity of construction, in the AMRJ, of the Patrol Ship “Mangaratiba”, scheduled for delivery in 2025.

For the Director General of Marine Material (DGMM), Admiral José Augusto Vieira da Cunha de Menezes, the delivery of the ship represents “the history of our Navy Arsenal of Rio de Janeiro, a shipyard rich in traditions and potentiality, which renews, with each ship built, its capabilities and its possibilities.”

The first Commander of “Maracanã”, Corvette Captain Raphael Saidel da Costa, stressed that Brazil now has a modern naval environment and ready employment. “In addition to all the operational capabilities that the ship has, for me it is a reason to be very proud to be the first commander of the patrol ship “Maracanã” and, now from Santos, we will be able to accomplish our mission which is to collaborate in the protection of our Blue Amazon”.
