Multipurpose Aircraft Carrier (NAM) “Atlântico” left the Ilha das Cobras Naval Base (RJ) September 13, bound for Belém (PA), transporting around 1,100 military personnel, in addition to approximately 435 tons of military equipment, weapons, ammunition, missiles, armored vehicles and light vehicles belonging to the Brazilian Navy, the Brazilian Army and the Brazilian Air Force.

The departure of the Fleet’s Flagship marks another stage of Operation Atlas, which is being conducted in various regions of the country. It also symbolizes the beginning of the Marajoara Joint Command, a structure created by the Ministry of Defense to enhance security during activities related to the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30). The event will be held in November 2025, making it the first time in Brazil.

Leading up to COP30, Operation Atlas will be conducted as a joint exercise, aligned with the Ministry of Defense’s regular training schedule. The next phase will also take place in Belém, Pará, with exercises in the Amazon, highlighting a riverine operation involving naval, air, and Marine Corps assets.
