The Argentine Navy and the Defense Materiel Agency of the Kingdom of Norway signed the document for the purchase of four aircraft of great relevance for the defense of our seas.
Buenos Aires – This afternoon on the frigate museum ship ARA “Presidente Sarmiento” the signing of the agreement between the governments of the Argentine Republic and the Kingdom of Norway to finalize the acquisition of four P-3 C/N Orion aircraft to be incorporated by the Argentine Navy.
The signing of this treaty took place between the Chief of the General Staff of the Navy, Admiral Julio Horacio Guardia, accompanied by the Minister of Defense, Jorge Enrique Taiana, and the Director of the Defense Materiel Agency of the Kingdom of Norway (NDMA: Norwegian Defence Material Agency), Magnus Hansvold.
Present were the Secretary General of the Navy, Rear Admiral Diego Suárez del Solar; the Director General of Navy Materiel, Rear Admiral Marcelo Calvete; the Commander of Naval Aviation, Navy Commodore Juan Alberto Mercatelli, the Norwegian Ambassador to Argentina, Halvor Sætre; naval authorities and special guests.
After the signing of the agreement, Defense Minister Jorge Taiana said: “These aircraft have the characteristic of serving different military functions, and they also have a particular observation capacity. It has a great flight range and that makes it very useful for the surveillance and control of our territorial sea, a task that is very important to us.”
