This morning (October 23), the ARA frigate “Libertad” moored at the “Luis Piedra Buena” dock in the city of Puerto Madryn, after having set sail last Saturday from Comodoro Rivadavia.

The ship, under the command of Captain Gonzalo Horacio Nieto, was received by the Mayor of the city of Puerto Madryn, Gustavo Sastre; the Commander of the Naval Air Force No. 3, Captain Fabián Edgardo Cersofios; the Head of the Puerto Madryn Naval Station, Lieutenant Commander Héctor Oscar Loza; authorities of the Argentine Naval Prefecture and representatives of local institutions.

From very early on hundreds of families were able to appreciate the arrival of the frigate from the coast of the Golfo Nuevo. For its part, a Beechcraft Super King Air 200 aircraft, belonging to the Naval Air Maritime Surveillance Squadron, flew over the unit as a welcome gesture.

During the days in the city, the Midshipmen in Commission and crew will have the possibility of taking excursions and getting to know the main historical and natural centers of the region. They will also play a sports match with the local club “Almirante Brown” from the Chubut city.

The “Ambassador of the Seas” will open its doors to the public and educational institutions, tomorrow from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Wednesday and Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with free admission. It should be noted that during these days a gastronomic tour will be installed in the Plaza Glorias Navales, south of the Piedra Buena pier, on the shores of the Golfo Nuevo, where there will be local products and recreational activities will take place. The Music Band of the frigate ARA “Libertad” will also perform in said square, every day at 7:30 p.m., performing military marches and songs from its repertoire.
