The naval vessels that make up the 66th edition of the multinational Unitas exercise, including the destroyer ARA “La Argentina,” set sail for the maritime sector where the different operations and training in techniques and tactics will be carried out.
At the same time, ground exercises are being conducted at Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base, in which our country’s Marine contingent participates. Operations are supervised from Norfolk Naval Base, where Argentine Navy officers comprise the General Staff of Task Force 138.
In addition, during the recently launched exercise, training will be conducted with Marine Corps troops, special forces, and cyber defense forces from the various participating nations. It is worth noting that, among the operations and exercises, a key role will be given to the use of unmanned and robotic vehicles—both at sea and on land.
Referring to the importance of participating in the international exercise, the Commander of the Argentine Navy Task Force, Captain Daniel Eduardo Giudici, stated: “This activity not only strengthens our operational capacity and interoperability, but also reaffirms the bonds of trust, cooperation, and camaraderie among the personnel of the various participating forces.”
During his stay in Mayport, Commander, Task Force XLVI, Rear Admiral Carlos Sardiello, visited the destroyer ARA La Argentina, extending a warm welcome to the crew and expressing his pride in having them.
Likewise, the necessary coordination meetings were held to verify the safety and efficiency of operations. Additionally, events were held to foster camaraderie between the different countries, such as protocol sports and culinary activities.
On behalf of the Argentine Navy, notable results were achieved by First Class Corporal Lourdes Damiana Mamaní Martínez, who finished first in a 5K women’s race; the 3v3 basketball team finished second; and the ship’s galley team took first place in a traditional dishes competition.
