On Saturday, June 27, the international maritime exercise RIMPAC (Rim of the Pacific) 2026 held its traditional Open Ship Day at the facilities of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The event allowed citizens to visit and tour the frigate FF-05 “Almirante Cochrane” of the Chilean Navy.
The arrival of the unit, under the command of Captain Federico Cavada, marks a milestone in the four-month deployment called “Operation Pacific.” During this period, the crew of 187 naval servers will test their capabilities in highly complex scenarios, including anti-submarine warfare, air defense and maritime security operations.
RIMPAC 2026, which officially runs from June 24 to July 31, cements its position as the largest naval exercise on the planet. This year, the deployment has the participation of more than 30 nations, reinforcing the global commitment to maritime security, regional cooperation and interoperability in the Indo-Pacific area.
“Open Ship Day is an essential window for the community to understand the magnitude and purpose of our joint mission,” said the exercise command. The day allowed not only the exhibition of technical capabilities, but also a cultural exchange between international crews and visitors, highlighting the spirit of collaboration that defines RIMPAC.
Activities will continue over the next few weeks, focusing on complex exercises ranging from maritime surveillance to disaster relief operations. This instance reaffirms the high level of professionalism of the naval personnel of the Chilean Navy and demonstrates the commitment sustained during the 30 years of uninterrupted participation of the Institution in the most important combined naval exercise in the world.
