The physical launch of two reactors of the Admiral Nakhimov heavy nuclear missile cruiser (TARKR) of Project 11442M during repair and modernization at Sevmash is planned for the third ten days of November. A source in the Russian shipbuilding industry reported this to TASS.
“The physical launch of two Admiral Nakhimov nuclear reactors can take place in the third ten days of November,” he said.

TASS does not have official confirmation of this information.

Earlier, TASS, citing another source , reported that “the physical launch planned for November marks the beginning of practical full-scale testing of reactors in different modes; in fact, this means reaching a certain level of reactor power, so that later a conclusion can be drawn about the operability of the entire nuclear power plant.”

Sevmash General Director Mikhail Budnichenko told TASS during the Army-2023 International Military-Technical Forum that the cruiser will be released for sea trials for the first time after modernization in May 2024.

The cruiser has been under repair since 1999. Real work on it has been carried out since 2013. The main result of the modernization is a noticeable increase in the cruiser’s striking power. According to media reports, it will carry, in particular, 10 universal ship-based firing systems for eight Kalibr-NK and/or Oniks cruise missiles each.
