Egyptian & Spanish FFGs Conduct Red Sea PASSEX

February 20, 2021 – Under the General Command of the Armed Forces plan to advance training levels and deepen the exchange of expertise with the armed forces of brotherly and friendly countries, the Egyptian and Spanish navies conducted a passing exercise (PASSEX) within the area of responsibility of the Southern Fleet in the Red Sea. The PASSEX encompassed the Egyptian frigate Sharm El-Sheikh (ex-USS Fahrion) along with the Spanish frigate (ESPS Reina Sofia).

The joint naval exercise included several professional training activities as; maritime supply operations, sailing in various formations, communication drills, and exchanging helicopter docking. The joint exercise reflected the high capacities and capabilities of the participating naval units.

The passing exercise (PASSEX) is the second joint naval exercise with the Spanish Navy within a shortened time frame, as the Spanish Navy has a profound knowledge and vast experiences in the field. In addition, the PASSEX reflects the importance of such joint exercises in furthering the Egyptian- Spanish relations, and boosting the military cooperation between their navies. The matter that massively contributes to the stability and security of the region waters.
