March 13, 2020 (Google Translation) – On March 12, 2020, the La Fayette (FLF) Courbet frigate returned to its port base in Toulon after a deployment of more than four months in the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Gulf.
Departing from Toulon on November 7, the 180 crew members sailed on mission for 127 days. Patrolling in particular in the Strait of Hormuz used by merchant ships from all over the world, the Courbet was the first vessel deployed in the context of Operation Agenor, a military component of the European initiative EMASOH (European-led Maritime Awareness in the Strait of Hormuz) which aims to guarantee freedom of navigation in the Arabian Gulf, while protecting international economic interests.
In addition to securing maritime routes, the Courbet and its Panther helicopter detachment from the Flotilla 36F have contributed directly to the fight against illicit trafficking – which constitutes a source of funding for terrorism – by seizing more than 8 tonnes of drugs on the occasion of 3 exceptional catches on December 13 , January 5 and January 18 .
Spending the end of the year celebrations away from their families, the sailors of Courbet had the honor of receiving the Minister of the Armies Florence Parly on the occasion of the new year, who came to underline the importance of their commitment in the Indian Ocean and more specifically in the Strait of Hormuz.
