Brazil Studying Antarctic Replacement Ship Proposals

December 2, 2020 (Google Translation) – The Brazilian Navy (MB), through the Directorate of Program Management of the Navy (DGePM), informs that, on November 30, 2020, the Proposal Delivery Phase of the Project to obtain the Antarctic Support Ship ( NApAnt).

Four commercial proposals were received from the following companies / consortia:

– Damen Shipyards Gorinchem and Wilson Sons Estaleiros Ltda;
– Semcorp Marine Group – Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz Ltda .;
– Glosten Inc. and Sacanb Offshore Ltda; and
– Itaguaí Construções Navais S / A and Kership S.A.S.

The next steps in the process will take place according to the following schedule:

NApAnt will replace and develop the same NApOc Ary Rongel missions, with enhanced capabilities, due to the Navy experience in the Brazilian Antarctic Program and the support requirements for the new Comandante Ferraz Antarctic Station.

The Oceanographic Support Ship “Ary Rongel” was incorporated into the MB on April 25, 1994 and, since then, every year, it has been operating for an average of six months in Antarctica.
