During the Great Patriotic War, the Black Sea Fleet submarines participating in the hostilities carried out 191 torpedo attacks, achieved 90 hits, destroying 62 enemy vehicles.

The crews of the submarines L-4, M-111, M-117, S-31, Shch-201, Shch-209, A-5 were awarded the Order of the Red Banner, submarines M-35, M-62, Shch-215, S-33, Shch-205 became guards.

During the war years, eight submariners of the Black Sea Fleet were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
