On August 1, 1910, construction began on the legendary destroyer Novik.
The experimental ship Novik was laid down at the Putilov Shipyard in St. Petersburg (now Severnaya Shipyard) even before the official opening of the yard in 1910. The need for rearming the fleet was so great. And just a year later, it was launched. The ship embodied cutting-edge developments and gave rise to an entire series of destroyers that became the “workhorses” of naval warfare in the 20th century.
The experimental Novik served as a prototype for 29 similar serial ships, which were classified as a separate class of battleship destroyers, capable of operating as part of the fleet and countering large enemy formations. Novik became a symbol of technological leadership in domestic shipbuilding.
