German Navy Begins NH90 NTH Sea Lion Operations

June 8, 2020 – Today, on June 8th, 2020, the “initial flight” begins with the new NH90 NTH “Sea Lion” (NATO Helicopter 90 Naval Transport Helicopter) naval helicopters. The German Navy officially took over the three “Sea Lion” already stationed at Naval Aviation Squadron 5 in Nordholz on June 4th. The procurement of a total of 18 multi-purpose helicopters is planned.

The takeover was carried out by the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the Bundeswehr. On May 27, the naval inspector, Vice Admiral Andreas Krause (63), had already agreed to take over the German Navy and signed the necessary document. With a ceremony on June 25th at the Naval Aviation Command in Nordholz, the importance of taking over the “Sea Lion” is to be underlined.
