To strengthen the capacity of national hydro-oceanographic surveys and support the provision of accurate maritime data and information, the Navy’s newest Hydro-Oceanographic Auxiliary Ship, KRI Canopus-936, carried out its first voyage from Germany to Indonesia. Saturday (14/03/2026). The KRI release ceremony was also attended by the Coordinator of the Political Function of the Indonesian Embassy in Berlin and representatives of Abeking & Rasmussen Shipyard.
The voyage was carried out after completing all stages of development and testing at the Abeking & Rasmussen shipyard, Lemwerder, Germany. During the trip to the country, the ship will take a long-distance shipping route with several stops at international ports for logistical purposes, technical coordination, and ensuring the ship’s operational readiness until it arrives in Indonesia.
This momentum is an important step in the journey of KRI Canopus-936 before it will be officially strengthened by the survey fleet of the Indonesian Navy Hydro-Oceanography Center (Pushidrosal). Its presence is expected to increase the capacity of national hydro-oceanographic surveys, as this ship is designed to support marine data collection, seabed mapping, and hydro-oceanographic research to provide accurate maritime information.
Commander of the Pushidrosal Vice Admiral TNI Dr. Budi Purwanto said that the operation of this modern survey ship will further strengthen the implementation of the Pushidrosal task, both as a military hydrographic institution and as a national hydrographic institution, especially in providing hydro-oceanographic data and information, in the form of sea maps and nautical publication books to support the safety of shipping navigation, TNI Navy operations, and the management of water areas Indonesia.
Through the presence of KRI Canopus-936 supported by more advanced survey technology and modern defense equipment, marine mapping and research activities in Indonesian waters are expected to be carried out more effectively and accurately. This is in line with the priorities of the Chief of Naval Staff (Kasal) Admiral TNI Dr. Muhammad Ali in encouraging the modernization of the TNI Navy’s defense equipment as an effort to increase the readiness and ability of the TNI Navy in maintaining the integrity of the Indonesian seas.
