With the mighty Pacific Ocean as a witness, at the dock of the ARC “Málaga” Naval Base, the christening and flag signing ceremony of the bay tugboat ARC “Ciénaga de Naya” was held, a new unit acquired from the Damen Shipyards shipyard, which arrives to strengthen the logistical support and maneuver capabilities of the Pacific Naval Force.
The protocol ceremony was presided over by the Commander of the Colombian Navy, Admiral Juan Ricardo Rozo Obregón, who was accompanied by the Chief of Staff for Force Support, Vice Admiral Hernando Enrique Mattos Dager, the Commander of the Pacific Naval Force, Rear Admiral Camilo Mauricio Gutiérrez Olano, the Chief of the Logistics Operations Headquarters, Rear Admiral Carlos Daniel Isaza Morales and the Commander of the Marine Infantry Brigade No.2, Brigadier General Evert Andrés Mejía Giraldo.
The ceremony was also attended by the Chief of the Human Development Headquarters of the Colombian Navy, Rear Admiral Carolina Gómez del Castillo, who became the first woman in active service to have the honor of being godmother of a unit of the institution, a title that, according to naval traditions, It symbolizes maternal instinct, leadership and the star that guides the crew committed to the defense of the interests of the homeland.
This tug joins the fleet as a new naval means aimed at strengthening support and assistance capabilities in maneuvers, representing a further step in the permanent commitment of the Naval Institution to the challenges that the country is currently experiencing.
