KRI Gusti Ngurah Rai Arrives in Pearl Harbor for RIMPAC 2022

KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332, ship of the Multilateral Rim of Pacific Joint Training Task Force (Satgas Latma Multilateral RIMPAC) 2022 TNI Navy (TNI AL) arrived at Joint Pearl Harbor Hickam Pier (JBPHH) Hawaii, United States Sunday (26/6 ), after 11 days of sailing from Guam.

The arrival of the Latma RIMPAC Task Force commanded by Naval Colonel (P) Lewis N. Nainggolan who is also KRI I Commander Gusti Ngurah Rai-332 was welcomed directly by the Naval Defense Attaché (Athal) RI for the United States Naval Colonel (P) Yano Wenas and JBPHH Deputy Commander, Colonel Michael Staples. Athal RI welcomed the Task Force and gave instructions related to Latma RIMPAC 2022 to be implemented. Meanwhile Colonel Michael Staples representing JBPHH Commander welcomed and gave the opportunity to his staff to give a welcome brief to the Task Force.

The implementation of the welcome brief was led by Commander Laura Richardson who provided an explanation of the rules and regulations while at JBPHH to the Task Force officers. In addition, things that need to be known related to health facilities, shopping, tourist attractions, sports competitions, and other events that will take place during Rimpac 2022. It is hoped that the needs of Task Force personnel that will be based during the Harbor Phase, which is 16 days, will fulfilled.

Previously, before anchoring at JBPHH Hawaii Pier, KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332 still had the opportunity to carry out supply training at sea or underway replenishment (UNREP) with the American warship USNS Henry J. Kaiser in Hawaiian waters, United States. This ship is a tanker or oiler belonging to the US Navy that is specifically intended for the supply of fuel and fresh water and other logistical materials at sea for United States warships.

The UNREP was implemented for refueling before KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332 entered the Pearl Harbor Hickam Joint Base (JBPHH) Pier to anchor and follow the series of Harbor Phase activities. It also marks the first time KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332 carried out UNREP at sea after previously conducting a series of trials with KRI Bontang-907.

The involvement of the Navy in Latma RIMPAC is one of the programs between the Navy and the US Navy in order to increase professionalism, strengthen cooperation, and externally aims to increase the diplomatic role of the Navy in accordance with the expectations of the Chief of Navy Staff (Kasal) Admiral Yudo Margono as well as enhancing naval friendship (navy brotherhood) between participating countries in maintaining maritime stability in the region.

In this 28th RIMPAC exercise series, the Navy sent one warship, namely KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332, 35 Marines, and three exercise controllers who will participate in the exercise from June 29 to August 4 in the Hawaiian Islands, United States.
