On Monday, December 22, 2025, the naming and launching ceremony for the FY2023 planned destroyer “Yoshii” was held at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works.
Origin of the ship’s name “Yoshii”
The name “Yoshii” comes from the Yoshii River, which originates from Mt. Mikuni in Kagamino Town, Tomata County, Okayama Prefecture, flows through Okutsu Valley, flows east through the Tsuyama Basin, and joins tributaries such as the Kamo River and Yoshino River before emptying into Kojima Bay.
