In a maritime operation led by elements of the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) through the Mexican Navy acting as Coast Guard, in coordination with the Secretariat of National Defense (Defensa), Attorney General’s Office (FGR), National Guard (GN) and Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), 87 packages with approximately 2.5 tons of possible cocaine were seized on the coasts of Michoacán.
This action was carried out during maritime and aerial surveillance patrols for the maintenance of the rule of law at sea, in which vessels and air units of the Mexican Navy participated, with which a shipment was sighted and 47 packages weighing 1,354 kilograms of suspected cocaine were seized; in follow-up to this operation, an additional shipment of 40 packages weighing 1,196 kilograms of cocaine was located.
Therefore, the seized drugs were placed at the disposal of the corresponding Public Prosecutor, who will compile the investigation files for the case.
It is worth noting that with this seizure, the total amount of apparent cocaine seized at sea during the current administration is approximately 51 tons; likewise, the drugs seized in this event represent an economic loss of more than 980 million pesos and prevented approximately five million doses from reaching the public.
These actions are part of the maritime, aerial and land surveillance operations carried out by the Secretariat of the Navy through the Mexican Navy in national waters, to inhibit criminal activity, in order to guarantee and maintain the rule of law in Mexican maritime zones.
The institutions of the Security Cabinet reaffirm their commitment to work in a coordinated manner to prevent illicit substances from reaching the hands of young people.
