The Chief of Staff of the Navy (CEMA), Admiral Jorge Nobre de Sousa, visited, on October 24, the DAMEN shipyards where the Navy’s Multifunctional Naval Platform, future NRP D. João II, is under construction in Galati, Romania.

At the shipyards, CEMA was received by representatives of the company DAMEN, responsible for the coordination and construction of the future Navy ship, as well as by members of the Portuguese Navy’s Monitoring and Inspection Team, deployed at the shipyard.

During the visit, a briefing was held on the development of the project and its construction, addressing the main technical challenges identified in the design phase, arising from the innovative character and unique concept of this new naval unit, as well as the different phases of the ongoing construction.

Admiral Nobre de Sousa also had the opportunity to monitor the development of the work on site, noting the high level of execution and commitment of the teams involved in the implementation of this strategic project, which represents a significant milestone in the modernization and strengthening of the Navy’s capabilities. At this stage of construction, 17 blocks have already been installed, out of a total of 25, which make up the ship.
