On Monday, August 25, 2025, at 10 a.m., the frigate “Sachsen-Anhalt” will set sail for the mandated UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) foreign mission off the Lebanese coast.
The crew, under the command of Frigate Captain Daniel Läzer, will conduct maritime surveillance and training of the Lebanese Navy off the Lebanese coast until the end of January next year as part of the UNIFIL mission.
“Many crew members were already on board the ‘Baden-Württemberg’ at the turn of the year 2023/2024, when we were also on this deployment,” says the commander, “and are familiar with the deployment and the challenges that the deployment entails in terms of both their work and their personal lives,” he continues, referring to the upcoming deployment. The current crew of the “Sachsen-Anhalt” has already completed the first deployment of an F125-class frigate.
Läzer knows only too well that deployments and seafaring are not easy for families and relatives – “Many families will remember the time and find ways to deal with the challenges, because the relatives are the ones for whom we serve, but also and above all the ones who make service possible in the first place.”
The “Sachsen-Anhalt” is leaving Wilhelmshaven with around 150 soldiers. The frigate’s regular crew will be supported by a shipboard operations team from the Eckernförde shipboard operations company, as well as a dental team.
