Several NATO Vessels Make Port Calls in Trondheim

Norway has a good training area for our allies, and several NATO vessels have trained in Norwegian waters the past weeks. Both the Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1) and the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1 (SNMCMG1) are here now, preparing for exercise Cold Response 22.

This weekend SNMG1 and SNMCMG1 will have a port visit in Trondheim. SNMG1 will arrive Thursday morning and SNMCMG1 on Friday.

The vessels in SNMG1 have trained in Norwegian waters for several weeks already. First in exercise Arctic Dolphin in the Bergen area, then in exercise Dynamic Guard in Skagerrak. Now they are heading north for exercise Cold Response 22.

Since Monday this week the Norwegian minesweeper HNoMS Hinnoey has been our contribution to SNMCMG1. They are first taking part in exercise Cold Response 22, before continutuing to operate with the group until the summer.

We are very grateful to Norway and the Norwegian armed forces for again organizing and hosting exercise Cold Response, Commodore Jeanette Morang, Commander Surface Forces NATO said.

The exercise provides great opportunities for NATO together with partner Nations to improve interoperability, readiness and preparedness in all domains in a join setting. The amphibious element in the exercise will be used to validate elements of NATO’s amphibious concept in practice.
