The Project 11356 frigate Tamal was handed over to the Indian Navy at the USC Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad. This is the fifth ship built by USC for the Indian Navy. The project was developed by the USC Northern Design Bureau.

The new ship was named Tamal, which means “Sword” in Sanskrit. The acceptance certificate was signed by a representative of JSC Rosoboronexport (part of the Rostec State Corporation) and the ship’s commander.

“The Tamal frigate successfully completed acceptance tests with the participation of the Indian commission. We can say with confidence that this is a modern and multifunctional ship that has high combat capabilities to counter surface, land, underwater and air targets,” said USC CEO Andrey Puchkov.

The ship is equipped with a reliable air defense system, the basis of which is the Shtil-1 anti-aircraft missile system with vertical launch missiles developed and manufactured by the Almaz-Antey Air Defense Concern.

The artillery armament, which consists of 100 mm and 30 mm caliber artillery mounts, together with the electronic warfare system, is capable of repelling attacks by UAVs and unmanned boats. The ship also has a reinforced helipad, thanks to which it can take on board the Ka-31 long-range radar detection helicopter.
