Admiralty SY Cuts Steel for Two Project 677 Submarines

Admiralty Shipyards (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation) has begun cutting metal from two Project 677 submarines at once.

The state contract for the construction of the third and fourth diesel-electric submarines of project 677 was signed between JSC Admiralty Shipyards and the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in June 2019 as part of the Army-2019 forum.

In September 2018, the company launched the second Project 677 Kronstadt submarine. Currently, the shipyards are preparing the submarine for the second stage of factory sea trials. As part of the first stage, the Admiralty Shipyards successfully conducted high-speed and maneuvering tests of the submarine. The specialists of the plant and the crew of the Navy carried out the signage and inclining of the submarine, checked the hydroacoustic complex, navigation and communication systems, and tested the mast-lifting devices.

Based on the results of trial operation of the head submarine “St. Petersburg”, “Admiralty Shipyards” are modernizing the control system of ship technical means, the electric propulsion system, and the navigation complex on subsequent Project 677 submarines.

Project 677 submarines belong to the fourth generation of non-nuclear submarines and today are recognized as the most modern and promising domestic non-nuclear submarines, both in terms of combat effectiveness and other performance characteristics. “Admiralty Shipyards” is the only shipbuilding plant of this class.
