Since February 1 , 2022, the Naval Air Group (GAN), composed around the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, has been deployed in the Mediterranean as part of the CLEMENCEAU 22 mission, to contribute directly to the security of Europe.
Engaged throughout the Mediterranean basin, the GAN has detached air and maritime units to carry out surveillance missions, in support associated with the European Union operation EUNAVORMED IRINI. An Atlantique 2 maritime patrol aircraft, which accompanies the aeromaritime force, as well as an E-2C Hawkeye air surveillance aircraft, from the air group on board the Charles de Gaulle , carried out flights for the benefit of Operation IRINI. In addition, the Multi-Mission Frigate with Reinforced Air Defense Capabilities (FREMM-DA) Alsace also provided support to the operation.
