Russian Submarine Rescue Ship Joins Mediterranean Flotilla

The crew of the rescue ship “Epron” of the Black Sea Fleet (BSF) began the passage of the Black Sea straits of the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles in the direction of the Mediterranean Sea.

A vessel from the rescue squad of the Directorate of Search and Rescue Operations of the Black Sea Fleet is moving to the far sea zone to perform tasks as part of a permanent operational group of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea.

Also on board the Epron is a group of Sevastopol scientists from the Institute of Biology of the Southern Seas, who will conduct expeditionary studies of the ecological state of the seas of the Mediterranean basin. The expedition is carried out with the cooperation of the Sevastopol city branch of the Russian Geographical Society and the Black Sea Fleet.

For the Epron crew, this is the first mission in the Mediterranean as part of a permanent task force of the Russian Navy.
