Project 12700 Georgy Kurbatov Maiden Arrival in Sevastopol

The newest mine defense ship “Georgy Kurbatov” has arrived at the main base of the Black Sea Fleet (Black Sea Fleet) – Sevastopol.

The crew completed the inter-fleet transition from the Baltic to the Black Sea fleet, during which the ship sailed more than 5 thousand nautical miles, having overcome a 7-point storm twice, once a 6-point storm and three times a 5-point one, which became an unscheduled test of the ship’s seaworthiness and the professionalism of the crew. …

The ceremony of welcoming the new ship in Sevastopol was attended by: the commander of the Crimean naval base Rear Admiral Felix Menkov, veterans of the Black Sea Fleet’s water area security unit, representatives of public organizations and clergy. The crew was greeted with a military band, bread and salt and a traditional roast suckling pig.

The mine defense ship Georgy Kurbatov was built at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard. For the manufacture of the ship’s hull, a composite material was used. The ship’s displacement is 890 tons, length is 61 meters, width is 10 meters, speed at full displacement is 16.5 knots, the crew is over 40 people. The ship has high maneuverability due to the use of an effective complex of various thrusters. The ship’s design implements a new approach to creating comfortable conditions for the crew’s service.
