Commandant Bouan Takes Part in EUNAVFORMED IRINI

The High Seas Patroller (PHM) Commander Bouan has been involved in the European operation EUNAVFORMED IRINI since November 17. It now operates under the operational control of the European General Staff based in Rome, commanded by Italian Rear Admiral Stefano Turchetto, alongside four ships from several European nations (Italy, Greece, Romania and Germany). The main objective of the IRINI mission is to enforce the embargo imposed by the United Nations on arms intended for Libya. The patrol of PHM Commandant Bouan is currently the heart of France’s contribution to this mission.

After an operational break in Augusta, Sicily, to install the information and command system specific to this operation, PHM Commander Bouan set out to sea again on November 20 to reach his area of action. Augusta’s operational break was used by the crew to harden up.

In order to improve its integration into the European operation, a dedicated training program was also organized: exercise to visit a suspect vessel, review of communication procedures and report. The crew of the PHM Commander Bouan is now ready for its mandate in the IRINI zone.
