Portuguese Navy Saves 37 Illegal Immigrants off Algarve

The corvette António Enes recently rescued 37 people, all male, who were in a wooden boat measuring seven meters at 47 nautical miles, between Vila Real de Santo António and Tavira.

The alert reached the Lisbon Search and Rescue Coordination Center at the end of Wednesday, via a merchant ship that was sailing in the area. Immediately, the Navy deployed to the site the corvette António Enes and the speed boats Pegaso and Sagittarius.

The Navy ship is now heading to the Naval Support Point of Portimão, where it is expected to arrive this afternoon. The Foreigners and Borders Service will be on site.’
