Indonesian Navy Trains with Australia in the Java Sea

The elements of the Navy warships (TNI AL) and the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) with precise and accurate calculations, successfully tested five maneuver formations carried out in the waters of the Java Sea and destroyed the Tomato Killer target on the 2nd day of the Field Maneuver Phase. (Manlap) Joint Exercise (Latma) New Horizon 2021, Monday (1/11).

The maneuver formation is a Photoex serial exercise in the New Horizon Manlap, where the elements of the Indonesian Navy and RAN involved carry out a series of formation maneuvers at sea. The exercise continued with the Replenishment At Sea (RAS) activity or debriefing, namely the method of transferring fuel, ammunition, and other goods from one ship to another when the position was sailing and continued with the Gunex series (Gun Exercise) namely shooting cannons using Tomato Killer as a target.

At Latma New Horison 2021 this time, the Indonesian Navy deployed two warships, namely KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332 and KRI Malahayati-362 as well as a Panther Heli. Meanwhile, RAN sent the HMAS Anzac F-150 and an MH-60R helicopter. While the training material is focused on the development of anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW) warfare exercises, including the Harbor Phase at the Warship Training Center Building (Puslatkaprang) of the Koarmada II Exercise Command which was previously held on 29-30 October 2021.

Successfully carrying out the Maneuver Formation and RAS training, the three elements of New Horizon 2021 immediately carried out the Gunex Series with the Oscar Formation. The first order of HMAS Anzac F-150 fired the main cannon with the tomato killer target, followed by the second order of 76 cannon fire from KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332.

After that the training series continues to Surface Exercise (Surfex). In this series, KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332 plays the role of Commander Surface Action Group (SAG), which successfully neutralizes enemy fire (Killer Tomato) in a coordinated manner in accordance with the Engagement Order given by KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332 as SAG Commander.

“The shooting this time was carried out jointly and with a zig-zag maneuver, where HMAS Anzac with 127 mm caliber, KRI MLH with 120 mm caliber and KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332 with 76 mm caliber. becomes an important point in building mutual trust building between the two parties,” explained Marine Colonel (P) Sumarji Bimoaji, Commander of KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332 as Commander of the 2021 New Horizon Task Force after the exercise.

Furthermore, Colonel Sumarji added the emphasis of Pangkoarmada II Admiral TNI Dr. Iwan Isnurwanto, SH, MAP, M.Tr.(Han)., as the Exercise Organizer, so that all Latma participants prioritize the safety of personnel and security from navigational hazards during the exercise.

“No less important is to use this good opportunity to strengthen communication and exchange ideas as well as knowledge, and improve cooperative relations, interoperability and understanding between TNI AL and RAN personnel in line with the priority program of Kasal Admiral TNI Yudo Margono,” concluded Colonel Sumarji.
