“Until 2024, a series of 6 diesel-electric submarines of Project 636.3 will be fully built and will become part of the Pacific Fleet. Currently, the construction of this series is underway at the Admiralty Shipyards, which is part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation. Moreover, the construction of each submarine is ahead of schedule, ”said the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov, following the results of the working meeting, where issues of submarine shipbuilding were considered.
“The replenishment of the Submarine Forces of the Pacific Fleet with a series of 6 units of submarines of project 636.3 is part of the program for equipping the submarine, surface, air and coastal components of the Pacific Fleet, which is currently being implemented by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and the Main Command of the Navy. Undoubtedly, the Pacific Ocean will be able to fulfill the assigned tasks even more efficiently in their operational zone of responsibility and in the far ocean zone, ”said Admiral Nikolai Evmenov.
The contract for the construction of the series was signed in September 2016. This was a continuation of the implementation of the long-term plan of the Russian Ministry of Defense to equip the country’s Navy. The first submarine, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, was handed over to the Russian Navy in November 2019. The Volkhov submarine, the second in the series, entered the Pacific Fleet on October 24, 2020. The submarine “Magadan” was accepted into the Navy on 12 October.
The construction in a short time was ensured by the well-coordinated work of the designer – Central Design Bureau “Rubin”, the construction plant, as well as the cooperation of contractor firms, whose involvement in the work is well established. Rubin’s specialists provide designer supervision over the operation of the ships transferred to the Navy.
At present, a light hull is being formed on the fourth submarine of the Pacific series “Ufa”, pipe and electrical installation works, and an acoustic coating is being installed. The fifth and sixth submarines of the Mozhaisk and Yakutsk series were laid down at the enterprise with the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 23, 2021. The submarine “Mozhaisk” is undergoing electric locksmithing of blocks, painting and insulation works are being carried out. Hydraulic tests of the ship’s bow block are planned for the end of the year. Also, the formation of blocks of the submarine “Yakutsk” is underway.
Earlier, on October 12, a solemn ceremony of transferring a large diesel-electric submarine Magadan of project 636.3 to the Russian Navy took place at the enterprise of the United Shipbuilding Corporation JSC “Admiralty Shipyards”. The St. Andrew’s flag was raised on the submarine.
The ships of the Admiralty Shipyards transferred the Magadan submarine to the Navy 1 month ahead of schedule. The previous submarine Volkhov in the series was also transferred to the Navy a month earlier than the deadline. This suggests that in a number of areas of military shipbuilding and, in particular, in the issue of non-nuclear submarine boats are coming ahead of schedule. All this was the result of constant close interaction of the Main Command of the Navy with the United Shipbuilding Corporation, with the Admiralty Shipyards, with the Rubin Central Design Bureau, as well as the responsible attitude of shipbuilders to the design and construction of non-nuclear submarines. An important role was played by the fact.
