Arctic Group of the Northern Fleet Begins Final Stage

Ships and vessels of the Arctic grouping: the Severomorsk BSC, the Georgy Pobedonosets BDK, the Pamir SBS and the Sergei Osipov BMTN have embarked on the final stage of the tenth cruise across the seas of the Arctic Ocean. At present, the Severomors under the command of Vice-Admiral Oleg Golubev, Deputy Commander of the Northern Fleet, operate in the Barents Sea in the Novaya Zemlya archipelago.

The crews of the large anti-submarine ship “Severomorsk” and the tanker “Sergei Osipov” conducted an exercise on the transfer of fuel on the move using the wake method while sailing in the Arctic. During the transfer of fuel, special attention was paid to the observance of environmental safety.

Damage control exercises were conducted on the large landing ship “George the Victorious” and the rescue tugboat “Pamir”, with conditional damage to the underwater part of the hull and water entering the compartment. The personnel worked out actions to seal holes and use water-pumping agents.

Over the past week, ships and vessels have been practicing the tasks of the cruise in the Kara and Barents Seas near the islands of the Franz Josef Land archipelago. The voyage took place in difficult ice conditions without icebreaker support.

The tenth Arctic cruise of the Northern Fleet grouping of ships and vessels will last for several more days. The squad is expected to arrive at the end of the week.
