On October 5, the V International Scientific and Practical Conference “Problems of Study and Preservation of Marine Heritage”, organized by the Museum of the World Ocean in cooperation with the USC, opened in Kaliningrad.
The conference brings together the best specialists in the protection and research of marine history objects, provides an opportunity to exchange experiences, expand cooperation and “synchronize watches” with representatives of museums, libraries, archives and scientific institutes.
The head of the USC Alexei Rakhmanov addressed the participants of the event with a welcoming speech. He noted that the status of the sea capital of our country was firmly entrenched in Kaliningrad, first of all, due to the fact that a community of professionals, recognized experts in the field of Ocean Sciences, has been forming in the region for years.
According to him, the corporation’s shipbuilders, who are also extremely concerned about the lack of exploration of the sea depths, see the expert community, and, above all, the Museum of the World Ocean, as their natural ally in promoting greater attention to the preservation of the marine heritage.
“Joint initiatives and actions of the USC and the Museum are aimed at promoting marine thinking,” said Alexei Rakhmanov. “I am sure that our interaction will only gain momentum, and there are many socially significant projects ahead of us.”
He also expressed confidence that the results of the conference, the developed recommendations and decisions will subsequently be perceived at a high state level and will help to strengthen the position of Russia as a center for research of the World Ocean. USC, for its part, will be ready to provide its support to such initiatives.
