U35 Returns From Operation IRINI October 15th

On Friday, October 15th at 10 am, the submarine “U 35” will return from the EU mission “Irini” under the command of Corvette Captain Oliver Brux (34).

Operation “Irini” of the European Union is tasked with monitoring and enforcing the arms embargo against Libya, but also disrupting smuggling activities on the refugee routes in the Mediterranean.

“Our main task in the association was the picture reconnaissance of suspicious ships and boats and thus also the gathering of information”, said the commander, Corvette Captain Oliver Brux.

The area of ​​operation extended from the central and southern Mediterranean south of the island of Sicily to the territorial waters of Libya and Tunisia. The crew worked with Italy, Greece and Portugal during their deployment.

After returning to the home port of Eckernförde, the crew will first have a three-week vacation. “Most of all, I look forward to my family and everyday life,” said Corvette Captain Brux. “Because there are already some maneuvers on the plan for next year.”
