France and UAE Conduct ASW Exercise Tiger Eel

On September 19, 2021, crew B of the multi-mission frigate (FREMM) Languedoc, deployed in the Indian Ocean since August 2021 as part of Operation AGÉNOR, conducted an anti- -submarine in cooperation with the UAE armed forces off the coast of the United Arab Emirates.

The Tiger EEL exercise consisted of a shared contact outfit on an underwater target, carried out in cooperation between the French vessel and UAE aircraft. A target simulating a submarine was thus used as part of this maneuver. The whole exercise was coordinated by the officer in charge of anti-submarine warfare aboard the FREMM Languedoc .

The UAE Army participated with two Dash 8 type aircraft equipped with sonobuoys. FREMM Languedoc tracked the target using its hull sonar, towed antenna and NH90 Caiman helicopter. This exercise showed a high level of cooperation and coordination between UAE and French resources while strengthening the level of interoperability between the two partner nations.
